The MAC Program is Franklin Special School District’s before and afternoon care program. It is designed to emphasize a relaxed and casual atmosphere with stimulating teacher-directed activities. Children are able to choose from a variety of enrichment programs that, due to a shortage of time during the day, they may not have the opportunity in which to participate. These activities benefit children emotionally, socially, physically and mentally. Time is also provided for children to work on homework and tutoring is offered with a certified FSSD teacher. The program is non-discriminating and designed to accommodate children in grades kindergarten through eight.

Based on monitoring and feedback, the MAC Program focuses on improvement by remaining up to date on its compliance with the Department of Education licensing requirements. It also provides training opportunities for its staff and offers new enrichment activities that meet the interests and needs of the students served. The MAC Program seeks grants in order to fund activities and to provide resources and tuition assistance to FSSD students who otherwise might not be able to attend.
The MAC Program seeks feedback from its staff and stakeholders. Staff surveys are utilized to seek input. The relationship between the Site Managers and the MAC Program Supervisor is one of collaboration. The MAC Program also seeks feedback from its most important stakeholders, the students and their parents. Input is always encouraged and the program is made better by the valuable feedback received from the students and their families. Input from building principals and classroom teachers is also actively sought in order to better meet the academic needs of the students.
SUPPORT PROGRAMS The FSSD’s vision statement of “Excellence in Teaching and Learning for All” applies to the MAC Program, which endeavors to be the best program that it can be. One goal of the MAC Program is to give all children the same opportunities. One way this is accomplished is by offering enrichment classes and field trips at no extra charge. MAC also provides free tutoring and homework help to any child who attends. Grants are sought so that every child in the district has the opportunity to attend. For the past few years, MAC has also been awarded a Lottery for Education in After School Programs (LEAPS) Grant, which helps fund after-school care for low-income students in five FSSD schools. Grant programs enable students to receive academic tutoring, enrichment activities, healthy snacks, social connections with other children outside of the school day, and a safe and caring environment. If you are interested in applying for tuition assistance through the LEAPS grant, please contact the phone numbers below. Eligible students must be on free and reduced lunch, or be referred to the program by a building principal or school counselor.
MISSION
The mission of the Franklin Special School District Before and Afternoon (MAC) Program is to effectively use school facilities to provide a safe, enriching, and fun place for all students of the district to enjoy during times when school is not in session.
